About the event
Safar-e-Raqs traces the journey of one of the most popular dance styles of today - belly dance. It is an 80 minute production showing the metamorphosis of the dance through different countries, eras and cultures - from 1700s Egypt to America's roaring 70s to how it is practised here.
The Nrityakosh production, headed by Debapriya Das, seeks to challenge the audience about their ideas of belly dance and its practice. Hop on the time machine with Safar-e-Raqs!
